The 3 people in my immediate family tried, but this is NOT the year for getting rid of the extremists--I told my daughter she was living through some really interesting history and to pay attention. She said she'd rather not..... (never voted in a REPUBLICAN primary before....)
4 years ago, when Mark Sanford was running for re-election in SC, I took my 8 year old with me to vote. When I asked for a Republican ballot she punched me in the arm, and said, "Daddy, you know we're Democrats." I told her, to the amusement of the poll workers, that party loyalty would not deter me from voting against Sanford when given the opportunity.
