Slop is what we fed the pigs. . .but slop jar has a completely different connotation!
At my grandparents house out in the country in Oklahoma, the slopjar was what you collected food scraps in to feed the pigs. The chamberpot was the indoor privy; the outdoor privy was on the backside of the chicken house.
I see! we called the chamberpot the slopjar. Never heard the word chamberpot until I read Dickens. Thanks for explanation....
