Portugal's prime-minister is also a liar. He presented himself as having a 5 year degree in 1993 in reality he had a 3 year degree. Knowing of his lie he enrolled in a public university whilst secretary of state for the environment in 1995. He used his political position to gain favours and was awarded a 5 year degree a year later.

This matter became public a month ago, many documents prove discrepancies on dates and other matters. The prime ministers office has applied political pressure over journalists investigating this matter, spin-doctors to try and minimize damage and finally threatened (through the minister for education Mariano Gago) closure for the private university.

Although there is a huge amount of proof to the contrary, under this pressure and with a new dean (from the same political party as the PM) the university has claimed Socrates has a perfect academic record.

Unfortunatly under the current political climate in Portugal (approaching the Putin heavy hand in russia) the only way to avoid that this matter is swept under the rug is to make this issue internationaly known so Socrates may be shamed into leaving government as well as obliging Anibal Cavaco Silva the President or the Republic to nominte another member os the PM's party to govern the country (or early elections)
