Actually, Dave does have a drop of blood on his chest— also a bullet hole. In 1991, during a live-fire exercise, he was accidentally shot in the chest by a grunt bumpkin, who dropped his rifle and it discharged. Not many people named "Public Intellectual of the Year" have such a hole.
I was aware of the General's accidental 'friendly fire' injury and the fact that he was patched up by future Senator Bill Frist. My point is that he's never seen a single day in combat.
