I have actually eaten breakfast (twice) with Brits who noshed on baked beans on toast. AND they like things like "Potted shrimp". (not to mention of course your favorite--jellied eels) After that potted meat on toast doesn't seem so bad......
I've never had breakfast with Brits, regardless of what they may have been eating. But, when I was a kid, potted meat was always a 'shelf-stable canned meat product' on our pantry shelf. Come to think of it, it wasn't all that bad, especially when you didn't know what was in it.
