Lawrence Kaplan, a senior editor at The New Republic
and a big cheerleader for the US invasion of Iraq, smiled
a lot back in 2003. Unsmilingly, in 2006 he argues that
we now have a moral obligation "to repair what the United
States has smashed." So: in retrospect, it was immoral to
invade Iraq, and in prospect, it would be immoral to uninvade
Iraq. In short, Lawrence Kaplan is asking more people to die
and more money to be spent to keep him from sinking further
into his own immoral quagmire. Wouldn't it be better to just let
him sink out of sight? And the quicker, the better?
