I think of all the resources it takes to put and keep a fleet of these in the air and wonder what could have been if it were devoted to something other than war.
Unless you consider the ability to send aid to distressed areas - think natural disasters, rather than man made - although here the ability to defend yourself taking aid into certain African areas would be of advantage.
"The Airbus A400M is a European four-engine turboprop military transport aircraft. It has been designed by Airbus Military corporation to replace or supplement aircraft used in the tactical airlifter role." Does disaster relief fall under the rubric of 'tactical airlifter'?
