OK Mrs. F, my daughter was insisting that the damn hackberries that have grown up on our property are necessary to certain butterfies and other insects and some birds and I should shut up and appreciate how they can live through the drought. So--that was yesterday and this is today and you have just backed her up and I will put the saw away. Thanks. How do you keep your garden going this year. I have done it but I hand water every day!!!!!!! Carefully so as not to waste the water of course.

The rains will return when Governor Goodhair is thrown overboard. Until then, my condolences to the Fearguth family and all good Texans suffering the collective punishment for the lone star state's many sins.

And compliments to the missus. It takes wisdom, a magic hand and a nurturing soul to encourage life and growth in a frying pan.

Hi Betsy, isn't it awful when our children outsmart us! Maybe you could just "thin" the hackberries. My garden has suffered--mulch and hand watering have helped. If we can just make it until Sept, life will be better.

Hey StonyPillow, you are soooo correct! The reason Ricky announced in S. Carolina is that if he had done so anywhere in Texas, an angry mob would have appeared.

I sometimes mention to my husband that it seems to be just my luck that I took up serious gardening just as global warming was getting well started....oh well, gardening is and was always a challenge. I just hope I'm not left with agaves, and hackberries! (not that I mind agaves, but flowerwise they aren't the greatest are they?)

Yes, Betsy, if this weather continues, we may be forced to alter our preferences of plants. I've already marked several off my list. Maybe we'll just have to "love the ones we're (left)with."

Thanks, Sandy. I really like getting macro pics of butterflies. My goal is to get a really good camera so that I can get even closer.
