Can you offer me some philosophical comfort about having him so Cloooooose to us both...I find it both erie and icky.

The only philosophy I know of that might give you comfort is Hans Vaihinger's Philosophy of 'As If'. You could live, for instance, 'as if' Dubya were nothing but a carbuncle on Governor Perry's fundament way down there in Austin. All it takes is a little imagination.
